The 8BA casting on this particular engine's cylinder head means this engine is from Ford's final run of flatheads from 1949 to 1953. ![]() As the engine grew, Ford added three more head studs (bringing the total to 24) and incorporated modern insert bearings - a variety of other changes were rolled out over 20 years of development. The earliest flatheads sported 21 head studs, 221 cubic inches of displacement and Babbitt bearings. ![]() Starting life in 1932, the venerable Ford flathead V8 engine was refined and updated until its overhead valve successor filled its spot under the hoods of Ford passenger cars in 1954. ![]()
